NOTES | |
This splendid run is worth every inch of the five or six mile hike required to get to the put-in. The first exploratory descent of the North Fork upstream of Yucca Creek was done by Richard Penny, Michael Latendresse, and Rick Norman in April of 1993. In the Spring of 1997 paddlers once again turned their attention to this beautiful segment. Preston Holmes has done an excellent pictorial of the run from Projectile Vomiting, downstream, and Charles Foster has written an informative summary of the run. When Gary and I did the run, we had intended to go as far upstream of the "normal" put-in as possible. We hiked perhaps two miles above the usual put-in, but impenetrable brush blocked access to the river. We briefly considered sliding down to the stream on top of the thick chaparral, but sanity prevailed and we back-tracked to a point where we could access the river without having to bushwack. This was about a mile above Projectile Vomiting. The paddle down to PV was clean and fun, and a good warm-up for the more difficult boating downstream. Related information: |
