THE SIERRA, Crown Point Tarn

The northern boundary of Yosemite National Park is a wonderful area in which to hike and climb. The brilliant white granite of the Sawtooth Ridge, and glacier sculpted canyons accent a terrain ideal for cross-country travel, summer or winter.

This particular photograph was taken on a loop trip done in early September with my wife, Terry. Starting at Twin Lakes, we hiked up Horse Creek Canyon to Horse Creek Pass, then over Matterhorn and Burro Passes, climbing Matterhorn Peak (12,279 ft.) en route.

IIn Slide Canyon a severe summer snowstorm kept us in our (small) Stevenson tent for nearly 24 hours. Terry just did not seem to appreciate my continued ranting. "What a storm! Isn't it amazing! Listen to the wind!"

The photograph Sawtooth Ridge, Clearing Storm was taken during a frenzied two or three minute session of tumbling clouds and patchwork sun that accompanied the end of the storm.

We finished our hike via a pass north of Slide Mountain, descending to the basin southeast of Crown Point and eventually working our way back to Twin Lakes, via Robinson Creek.
