Skiing from Glen Aulin in 1973, the clouds began to lower and thicken, and the wind more brisk. Late in the day route-finding became more difficult, and we followed the meandering course of the Tuolumne River. About the time it started to snow, and we were looking for a place to camp, we skied up to the front door of Parsons Lodge. Incredible! Instead of a stormy night in a wind-blown tent, we were able to spend the night in this well-placed shelter. Warm and dry, we cooked a stroganoff dinner by a roaring fire, crawled into our sleeping bags, and fell soundly asleep.
Note: Parsons Memorial Lodge is a National Historic Landmark operated by the National Park Service. It is used for workshops, slideshows and other presentations. According to the NPS, overnight use is no longer allowed.
