Weathernotes for Tuesday, October 30, 2001It's raining in Southern California! The last significant rain (>0.01) at Los Angeles - USC was way back on April 20 when 0.33 inch was recorded. Last week, MRF model runs had suggested the possibility we would have some wet weather today. As of 1:00 pm areas in Santa Barbara County had received about 0.25 to 0.50 inch, and Ventura County areas about 0.10 to 0.30 inch of rain. |
At 1:45 pm the Intellicast radar summary showed bands of showers, with some heavier showers, moving into the Los Angeles basin. Today's CPC/NCEP Outlooks depicted "Normal" precipitation for the 6-10 day period and "Below Normal" for the 8-14 day period for Southern California. Forecast confidence for the 6-10 day period was 3 on a scale of 1-5, and for the 8-14 day period was 2. CPC Winter Outlook 2001-2002 |
Weathernotes for Wednesday, October 24, 2001NOAA/CPC has released their Winter Outlook for 2001-2002. In the absence of a strong El Nino or La Nina. the West Coast trend is to "Climatology" for both temperature and precipitation, with the exception of the desert Southwest, which is expected to have warmer than normal temperatures. The Climate Prediction Center has also released the latest Long Range Precipitation Forecast, which mirrors the Winter Outlook. |
Today's MRF from the CDC is suggesting the possibility of some wet weather in California early next week, and this notion is supported to some degree by the NCEP Ensemble Precipitation Forecast. Today's CPC/NCEP Outlooks depicted "Normal" precipitation for the 6-10 day period and "Below Normal" for the 8-14 day period for Southern California. Forecast confidence was 3 on a scale of 1-5.
