Weathernotes for Thursday, July 31, 2003Moist monsoonal flow resulted in scattered to isolated showers and thundershowers over much of the southwest during the month of July. Downtown Los Angeles received trace amounts of rainfall on several days of the month. Some mountain and desert areas experienced very heavy rain. In the late Spring and early Summer it looked like a La Nina phase of ENSO was in the works, but for now the development appears to have reversed itself, or at least stalled. According to NOAA scientists there is considerable uncertainty in ENSO forecasts. |
The absence of a clear ENSO signal makes longer term weather outlooks even less certain since forecasters cannot rely on temperature and precipitation patterns associated with positive and negative ENSO phases in their forecasts More information concerning Southern California weather can be found using our WEATHER LINKS page. |
